The Viyuela family decided to give a strong boost to its wine activity that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, building a modern winery located in the same town, Boada de Roa. There where their ancestors made wine in a traditional way, an art, in the prestigious framework of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.
Boada de Roa
In a rural environment where all lives are humble, the historical references of our family are lost in time. In the cadastre of Boada de Roa, the same surnames of families that currently exist were included in successive decades. For hundreds of years, for the Viyuelas and their neighbors, that place and its vineyards were their little big world.
Our passion
Our motivation has been wine for generations and in 2003 the family decided to launch a high-quality project, framed within the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.
Rural entrepreneurship
This is how the current Bodegas Viyuela project was born. With old vines, manual selection of grapes and extreme care and affection in the production of our wines, which can be seen in each sip, in each moment of enjoyment, in each experience… there we transmit our passion for wine.
Gabriela Viyuela's dream
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Viyuela family has had vineyards in the Boada de Roa area, which have always been used for winemaking. Gabriela Viyuela was responsible for keeping this crop in the family for future generations.
Throughout the 20th century
The cultivation of the vine continued, elaborating in the old wineries located in Boada de Roa, and storing the wines in the underground cellar located in the center of the town.
Bodegas Viyuela Foundation
The Viyuela family decides to turn wine production around and become professional, building a modern and functional winery. Framed within the D.O. Ribera del Duero and with the goal of producing high quality and high expression wines. At the head of the winery, as president, Andrés González Viyuela.
Our first vintage
In 2003, the first complete harvest was carried out for the production of Viyuela wines.
We complete our product line
It was in 2006 when Viyuela finally completed the product range, launching its Reserva 2003 on the market for the first time. At this time, we also carried out an important image change in the labeling that would last for a decade.
Time for change
After the retirement of Andrés, President of the winery, his brother José Ángel assumes this role, hand in hand with his daughter, beginning to take place the generational change, which will be accompanied by numerous changes in Bodegas Viyuela and especially focusing on international markets. .
Gran Zarcillo de Oro
We achieved the greatest national recognition that exists in the world of wine: Gran Zarcillo de Oro for our Viyuela X Anniversary 2013. This would culminate the long list of national and international recognitions obtained by the wines of Bodegas Viyuela.
Internationalization and recognition
Bodegas Viyuela currently has a great national and international presence, exporting its wines to more than 20 countries in Europe, America and Asia. It also continues to garner international recognition of great recognition, such as Decanter, James Suckling or Wine Advocate.
